In the 2024 local elections, he secured a third term as Mayor of Doboj. However, in the asset declaration he submitted to the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH) in November that year, he failed to disclose a duplex flat, commercial premises and two garages owned by his wife, Aleksandra, in Doboj.
Speaking to reporters from the Centre for Investigative Reporting (CIN), Jerinić described the omission as an oversight that could be rectified, insisting he had no reason to conceal the assets.
In his declaration, Jerinić listed a house, land, commercial premises, a BMW X1 and a bank account, estimating the combined value of those assets at BAM 305,000. He stated that his wife owned assets worth BAM 178,000, comprising a flat in Serbia, a Range Rover Evoque and a bank account.
Elected officials at every level of government are required by law to declare all assets worth more than BAM 5,000, as well as any income and expenditure incurred both in the country and abroad. The Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina also requires office holders to disclose not only their own assets but those of their immediate family members, including spouses, children and any household members whom they are legally obliged to support.
The Central Election Commission is under no legal obligation to verify the accuracy of information contained in asset declarations. Some public officials exploit this loophole, omitting parts of their wealth from their declarations in the knowledge that they face no penalties for doing so.
The Jerinić Family’s Expanding Property Portfolio
Between 2010 and 2024, Jerinić submitted seven asset declarations, which elected officials are legally required to file at the beginning and end of each term in office. He served two terms as a member of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska (NSRS), held the post of Deputy Minister of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and went on to serve three terms as Mayor of Doboj.
When he entered the National Assembly for the first time in 2010, Jerinić declared ownership of a Peugeot worth BAM 9,000 and a BAM 50,000 loan scheduled to be repaid by March 2030. Four years later, his asset declaration had grown to include an 85-square-metre flat and 96- square-metre commercial premises. He also reported three loans with a combined value of BAM 205,000.
In the most recent declaration he submitted to the Central Election Commission at the end of 2024, Jerinić listed a new house measuring 65 square metres, 8,200 square metres of land, a BMW X1 valued at BAM 30,000, and BAM 15,000 in cash. The flat, however, has not been mentioned. Jerinić told CIN reporters that he had sold the property for BAM 150,000. In the meantime, he had also sold a house together with the land on which it stood.
Over the past two years, Jerinić has continued to invest in real estate, purchasing plots of land in the Doboj neighbourhoods of Trnjani and Pločnik for a combined BAM 10,000.
In his latest asset declaration, he reported an outstanding loan of BAM 200,000. He has since repaid that loan. In September last year, however, he took out a new loan of BAM 250,000, using his commercial premises as collateral. The loan is to be repaid over five years, with monthly instalments of BAM 4,000, he said.
For years, Jerinić has consistently declared a monthly rental income of BAM 1,500 from leasing his commercial property. His monthly salary in 2023 stood at BAM 7,111.
Over the past decade, his wife, Aleksandra, has acquired two flats, two garages and commercial premises. Since 2025, she has been a co-owner of Branch, a company that operates a hotel and restaurant in the newly opened Doboj City Park shopping centre. That same year, the company reported revenues exceeding BAM 1.25 million. Aleksandra Jerinić also serves as the company’s Deputy Director.
One of her flats, measuring 35 square metres, is in Novi Sad, Serbia, around a 20-minute walk from both the city centre and Beogradski Kej, the popular promenade along the River Danube. According to her husband, she inherited the flat from her father.
In 2022, Aleksandra Jerinić was registered as the owner of the 173-square-metre duplex flat, along with two garages measuring 47 and 70 square metres. A duplex commercial unit on one of Doboj’s main streets was registered in her name in 2024, five months before Jerinić submitted his latest asset declaration. None of the properties is subject to a mortgage.
Jerinić initially told CIN reporters that he had declared all of the family’s assets. He then suggested the properties might not yet have been registered at the time he filed his declaration, before conceding: “Perhaps I simply overlooked that part and failed to declare it.”
„My assets are public. I have absolutely no reason to hide anything or fail to declare it,” Jerinić said.
He said the commercial premises had been purchased for BAM 120,000 and that his wife earns BAM 3,000 a month by renting them out. According to Jerinić, the family’s latest property acquisitions were financed through the sale of previous properties, bank loans and his salary.
„Everything has been financed through loans, and everything has been done in accordance with the law – through bank accounts, with all taxes paid. Everything has been completely transparent,” he said.
From the SDS to the SNSD
Jerinić began his political career with the Serb Democratic Party (SDS), remaining a member from 2004 until 2018, when he and Doboj’s then mayor, Obren Petrović, were expelled from the party.
Jerinić told CIN that the Doboj branch of the SDS had delivered the party’s strongest election result at the time. He said local party leaders believed they should be prepared to work with all political parties, including the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), a position the SDS leadership rejected.
„When the majority is on the losing side, they will always outvote the one who has actually won. That’s why Obren Petrović and I were expelled. We then formed an independent mayoral ticket called Together for Doboj. We won the election, and afterwards, through negotiations, we were given the opportunity to take over the SNSD organisation in Doboj,” Jerinić said.
As Petrović won a seat in the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 2018 general elections, Jerinić succeeded him as Mayor of Doboj, leaving his position as Deputy Minister of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In early 2019, Jerinić won the mayoral race in a snap election. He went on to retain the position twice more, in the 2020 and 2024 local elections.
According to his official biography, Jerinić graduated from a secondary theological school in Cetinje, Montenegro, before continuing his education at the Theological Academy in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He later completed a master’s degree at the Business Academy in Novi Sad, earning the title of graduate manager with a master’s qualification.
