RS Railroad director ousted

Union strike leads to dismissal

Ljubo Pašalić, director general of Republika Srpska Railways, was dismissed last Saturday, October 6, following a long-drawn struggle within the Board of Directors and a damaging one-week workers’ strike.

The new director general Petko Stanojević was head of the Locomotives Division. In 2001, he was the first manager to submit a criminal complaint against former director general Sretena Telebak, accusing him of abuse of office and economic crimes. Telebak is currently awaiting trial.

The Union of Train Drivers organized a strike to oust Pašalić who they allege was trying to bring Telebak back. The union had the support of Milan Kiković, the executive director of traffic department.

‘After a long time, RS Railways is finally back on the right track’ said Stanojević. ‘None of this would be possible without the support of Bosnian media outlets that were covering everything that was going on.’
