Investigator Accused of Taking over €10,000 in Bribes

The Prosecutor’s Office says that Mujo Smajlović offered a special treatment to some suspects and defendants.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has accused its detective Mujo Smajlović of soliciting at least €10,000 in bribes from suspects and defendants, according to a press release.

According to an indictment filed by the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption, Smajlović was reaching to suspects or defendants under investigation without the authorization or knowledge of his superiors between 2012 and the beginning of 2015. He offered them special treatment. In exchange he had received at least €10,000.

According to the prosecutors, on several occasions Smajlović met with suspects or defendants to collect various sums of money or other gifts.

The Prosecutor’s Office asked that Selimović be banned from continuing detective work and forfeiting illegal gains and €10,000 (around 19,500 KM) in cash.

The indictment has been sent to the Court of BiH for confirmation. The Prosecutor’s Office officials said that they have been working adamantly to “uncover and prosecute all corruption offences, especially when the perpetrators were government officials.”
