Specifics
Critical habitat Gromiželj is located at the Drina river mouth into the Sava in the Bijeljina metropolitan area. Its main values are the habitat of the rare and endangered mudminnow fish, then birds such as western marsh harriers, black storks, purple heron and little egret, as well as a habitat of endangered plant species – water violet, the marsh fern, yellow water lily and marsh fern. Research of the area began at the end of 2008. The area was earlier protected under the category of special nature reserve.
Current State
Along the critical habitat is a dirt road in bad state. Even though there are several sign boards with information denoting the protected area; the turn to swamp “Laketića vir” is difficult to spot. The swamp is endangered because of low water and overgrowth.
Allowed
Forest management and husbandry in line with forest and economic grounds, scientific research upon approval and expert opinion from the relevant authorities, presentation and popularization of natural and cultural values; demarcation of protected area, marking of hiking trails, erecting signposts and building places of rest; basic laying out of infrastructure for touristic and recreational needs without negative effects on the natural values and species’ habitat; the implementation of protection measures in forest husbandry; collection of mushrooms and medicinal plants according to guidelines; making an inventory of flora, fauna and other natural resources; group and individual visits and recreational uses; local communities’ traditional use of the area.
Prohibited
All types of work and activities on “Laketića vir” without the approval and opinion of relevant institutions; introduction of non-native plants, animals and mushrooms; hunting of game, depletion of fish fund; unchecked collecting of medicinal and aromatic plants, mushrooms, nuts and berries; treatment of chemical solutions or agents that might cause pollution of soil and water; extraction of raw minerals, waste disposal; the use of pesticides and other biological agents except in the case of fighting outbreaks of harmful organisms from the quarantine list or regulated as non-quarantine; to change land use designation and water regime, no campfire, conducting other activities that destroy nature or harm habitats.
