While in Sarajevo to cover the 12th annual Film Festival, German free lance journalist Bernd Buder heard about the work of the Center for Investigative Reporting (CIN) and visited. He toured the Center’s office, interviewed reporters and editors and took home copies of CIN’s collected projects.
The Sept. 6 issue of the Frankfurter Rundschau daily newspaper features Buder’s story on CIN headlined “Bribes and Bio-bombs.” Buder got inspiration for that title from CIN projects about corruption in health care and on the presence of bacteria in food samples bought in restaurants and markets.
Buder called CIN’s work an example of positive change to Bosnian journalism. His article credited CIN with helping to raise journalism standards in the country and to increase appreciation for in-depth stories that matter to readers, not just politicians and other journalists.
